The Wade Bros Part 1: Road Trip

The Wade Brothers' photography often carries with it a certain narrative, some more overt than others. Road Trip is one of these, though it's not stated, the grain of the image and the candid style makes me think these are stills from film and a riff on old home movies.

As the story progresses the images take a dark turn as the story shifts into something more akin to a found footage horror. By reducing the story to a short series of images the characters become archetypes of familiar tropes. The result is something far more elementary form of storytelling forcing the viewer to fill in the blanks allowing the limited depiction of violence the same effect as camp-fire stories,
Though a very by the numbers approach the Wade Brothers use it very effectively and in doing so highlight some of the advantages of still over moving images when used effectively.
